Yeah, this coming from two yahoos that have never lived in that shit. I would give you one year, maybe two and you'd be right back down the hill. One good winter of shoveling and digging out every other night from the foot or two of white crap and you'd be done.

I lived the first 18 years of my life in snow country, and I have not looked back.

Yeah Kendo, we got sucked into that too. 12-ish years ago when we were in the Bay Area, houses were going for something like 3x what they were going for in Truckee. And the houses up at high elevation were cheaper than the ones down by Truckee. Hey, what a deal, right? With all that money we'll save, we can buy lots o' snow toys! :D

Uhhhhh.....

The first winter was fun. I got to learn how to use a snow blower, how to only sleep for 3-4 hours at a time so I could go blow/shovel more snow before it got too deep, etc. :D

Then the 2nd winter, not quite as much fun. Snow blowing/shoveling was just a chore. But hey, I can still ski DOWN to the ski resort, so not so bad. :)

By the 5th winter, I'd learned how to do very basic emergency repairs on the blower, at night, during a blizzard. My back hurt a lot more. And just once, I'd like to be able to sleep a full night during a storm. "Fun". :(

12-ish winters later... I'd just as soon be living down by Truckee. I'm getting too old for this deep stuff. Those guys got it easy down there.

For my miserable 2K feet in elevation, I got the plow. This will prevent any snow from happening here for years. If it *should* happen, I just happen to have a plow!

I'm with you GG - during storms I lose sleep while monitoring what's going on outside and figuring out how to get out in the morning with snow on the driveway Most of it's not bad, but the upper section is such that if there is snow on it, ain't nobody going up or down... except for the Grizzly which does just fine - love those Bighorns!

In case anyone is heading up this way, it is snowing here above Truckee right now. Only about an inch of accumulation so far. I doubt there will be any impact on I-80 (other than being wet and maybe slippery).

Funny you should revive this thread... driving home yesterday afternoon, in the stupid traffic, all I could think of was "Fawking Flatlanders, fawking flatlanders...." Another friend of mine calls them "skiholes", referring to the maddening crowds of wannabe 4-wheelers in SUVs that end up off the road on winter weekends, and now the skiholes are on summer vacation! (and it appears to be winter today - .34 inches of rain so far here at 2000 ft on the west slope. What a crazy world! :-)

Skiholes! I like it.

Yeah Dave, what a weird Memorial Day weekend. It has snowed every day up here. Not a lot, but some. When not snowing, it's been raining or drizzling. We're getting those giganto-flakes right now.

Oh well, maybe this will delay fire restrictions this year. Lots of talk of the dry spring bringing them on again this year. That would really cramp my ATV camping style. :(
