Polar HD 1500 22 cu. ft. ATV Trailer
I bought up a Polar HD 1500 ATV Trailer to help with yard work. Home Depot has them for $429, and they deliver them to your house disassembled via truck on a double-long pallet. I assembled it myself in about an hour, and given my lack of mechanical skills, that means that assembly is really-really easy. I added the 2" ball coupler (sold separately) for easy connect/disconnect to my ATVs which both have balls installed:
This thing is gigantic: think of a strong plastic bath tub custom-designed for Kendo so that he can stretch out and still float his toy boat all the way around his body, through faux storm clouds made from his bubble bath. Yeah, that's how big it is.
Here it is with my first load of the day:
The connection to my Grizzly via the ball coupler:
I ended up losing about a third of my load as I bumped and banged up the terraced steps from my back yard to the front of the house. Lesson learned: intertwine the limbs and you won't lose any on bumpy upslopes. The trailer has a steel frame and handled all the bumps just fine. The only "cheap" part of it appears to be the wheels. They have real rubber tires, but the wheels are held onto the axle with only a single pin. I think I'll pick up some spares because it seems like those could shear on rough terrain. I wouldn't want to take this trailer on a long or bumpy trail as there is limited ground clearance due to the relatively (vs. my Bighorns) small wheel diameter, and tires look like they would go ka-pop pretty easily on a sharp stick or rock. But for hauling crap around the new property, I think it will do just fine.
It has a nifty lever that you use to release the front part of the tub from the frame so that you can tilt the trailer up for easy unloading out the back. The back end is shallowly sloped so you can sweep stuff right out, or (probably) just surge forward and dump stuff that way.
The trailer with it's tongue are so long that it won't fit across my main trailer. However, if I put it on the trailer and run it's tongue forward along the tongue for the big trailer, I have room for it and an ATV behind it. The thing is really light and well balanced, you can pick up the tongue and wheel it around with one hand. I could have probably just drug it up onto the main trailer without using the Grizzly, but since it was already hooked up, I did it the lazy-man's way - drive up one ramp, stop on the other ramp, disconnect and pivot into place for the trip over to my new property:
I'll let you know how it holds up. I'll be hauling a lot of raked-up pine needles and tree limbs initially, then will likely split a bunch of pine and fir rounds that are on the property and see how well it handles loads of firewood.

I soon get to be like you: hauling trash in the trailer. The dumpsters are 1.5 miles away, so I figure I'll get in 3 miles/week.

I actually enjoy never hearing a garbage truck, so it's worth the trip each week. But I see a set of ATV tire chains in your future! Actually, I see an ATV plow in your future. (really though, the Bighorns work great w/o chains - I can plow uphill on my 24% grade driveway)

Re: Polar HD 1500 22 cu. ft. ATV Trailer
Thanks Sasquatch, that's my old house in Tahoe Donner and the grass is real! I've since moved across town to a bigger property with lots of forest but no grass (yet). The trailer is really getting a workout over here. We use it to haul brush, branches, pine needles, etc. to a big pile, then a guy we know with a dump truck and loader comes in and hauls off the pile. Three truckloads so far and the trailer is still going strong!
Now that you mention it, the one thing I miss about the old house is the grass...

I love burn days.. But I'm all cleaned up now after the big fire in 2009.
