Postby Keith Strong » Wed Jan 17, 2007 5:07 pm

So anybody put a stereo system on their ride yet? Dumb Idea? I was sittin here thinking a couple of 6.5 Polk Audio with a small amp direct wired to an mp3 player???? I dunno, I am a music geek so it sounded like a fun challenge.

Lope, Yogi, and Sten have the amplified Rumble Road speakers with their Ipods. We were out riding one day and i could actually hear Sten before I could see or hear his quad.

Any pics guys? I would be curious how you set it up, how much power, can the stock charging system and battery handle it, etc?

Keith this is the best I have, you can see the speakers on all 3 quads and get a general idea how big they are. Lope can give you all the details of the install, he did both of the KQ's in the picture. Otter box, ( http://www.otterbox.com/products/ipod_cases/ )make a real nice box for the iPod that is water and dust proof that they have mounted on the fenders. The radios we ride with Keith....not the Snow Phone...but the Platinum 900 Collett, has a port for an Ipod. The music stops automatically, when someone talks.

Hmmm...I know I need the communicator, but I like the idea of a regular music system. I can listen when parked, etc. Are those speakers self powered or something....off to Google!!!

Keith,
I personally love my communicator, but it has a hard time sometimes with my IPod. . . I would love to have a se of speakers like this, that way I can force everyone to listen to my music. . .Jimmy Buffet, the Cars. . . good music. . .

Those things are BUCKS! I am a cheap bastid...I plan to get some crappy Clarion boat speakers or something, install them in a rear cargo box, and mount a little 50x2 amp back there. If you thinka bout it, all you need to do is wire a switched remote wire to the amp with a conversion rca input for the ipod....I bet I can get most of the stuff for free too 8) My biggest question is how much can the stock electrical system handle in power draw. I plan to have the winch, GPS, mp3, and the amp off the battery in a hardwire. Doesnt sound like much but it all adds up...

I guess my response to that would be, the GPS takes little power draw, the Winch is only used once in a while, not all the time, so as long as you are not going with a 1000 watt amp, i would think that you will be ok. . .

I like the idea of getting a plastic storage box for the rear, putting the speakers on the inside along with an amp and doing that. I would just be concerned with how you would keep the box water/dust proof after mounting the speakers on the inside of the box. . .

The wakeboard tower is overkill for me

Realistically, I am looking for good quality sound with minimal space taken. I think if you install water proof speakers well in the box and seal the edges where it mounts, the box will remain water and dust tight. It just has to be done well. Give me some time...I will make it work :D

Ken....the whole point is to drown your complaining out :P

Keith,
I have had issues with downloading photos of the Rumble Road / ipod set up. It sounds like you are heading in a different direction anyway. Good luck. I will try to get help from Oldtrucks and at least let you see the details of how this particular set up looks.

I appreciate it. I like the theory, but I think I can get the same results for less....

Keith before you get speakers and an amp consider how much space you'll lose when you mount them. The rumble road set up is small and clean, but still produces great sound.
