Polaris Riders

Postby RenoDeano » Mon Feb 22, 2010 7:07 am

You Polaris guys seem to have a breakdown clause in most rides.
Makes the stories interesting.

Since Scott had the bolt that came out, why didn't you guys put it back together and reinstall the track?

Where is the pics of one of you stuck on the road to fordyce. Just past the bridge droping down the side hill to the lake. Looks like you guys had a situation there and had to drop off the lower side of the road toward the creek.

When the snow is hard as hell like that, you should cross the lake and get on the roads by meadow. We went to bassets for lunch and fuel that saturday. 90 miles round trip.

from cisco, riding my sled pol 09 800 dragon
Its a easy trip, you can ride the raods the whole way. Just have to cross fordyce lake and bounce up the hill to meadow or catch a trail/road on the north side of the lake.

We opted to boon dock almost the whole way. trails suck on a mtn sled.

Came by Bassets a few weeks ago (on a Monday) and there were four sleds there looking for gas......station was closed.

We tryed to take it off for two hours the it was jammed in there side ways. Ken even put his winch to the bottom of it so we could pull it off and still had no luck.

If you look at the picture....notice it's cocked on the spindle. When the bolt came out, it shifted at an angle.....and WOULD NOT move. Even winching.

When it broke the second time, after we tried driving with the assembly still on, but the tracks off...it ALMOST came off (pics too), but wouldn't budge.

That picture at the top (where the little bridge is)??

Scott went right, down that chute to the lake. I sidehilled on the road and we connected back near the lake.

We thought about crossing the lake.....but we didn't know how solid the ice was (do you know the thickness?). A sled...zipping across....not as bad...but the quad...weighs double, and doesn't go nearly as fast.

Since Fordyce is a relatively deep lake, compared to say Miller Lake....we decided it wasn't worth the risk.

Not sure on the thickness, But if its holding all the snow, it will hold a seld. We still can stop on the lake, but the water is droping. And its been warm so its getting thinner. Might be next year before I would try the atvs across. And hit it when the snow is right and its been cold for a long time to keep the ice frozen.

On another note, now would be a good time to go to paradise, you can go over the gate, and there have been alot of sleds out that road. So its packed down pretty good.

That brings up another thing, what you mentioned. Fordyce is a moving lake....the water level is constantly dropping....creating an air gap betweeen water and ice over time. Not sure how that affects the ice....but it would seem to me, to present more complications as to safety.

Whereas most lakes....the water level doesn't move away from the ice.

How much hill climbing do you have between Fordyce and Meadow?

All depends on the way we go. There are some decent hills to climb, and other ways its pretty mellow. There are some roads that come close to lakes north east side. Also there is the trail the goes down towards fordyce from the bottom of the damn at meadow. With the right snow I think you could come up the hill and hook up with that trail near the green cabin.

Did you notice how much the lake and ice has dropped? The snow cracked around the edges. last Time it was about 15'.
