Monroe Mountain (Fishing, Camping, ATV'ing)

Postby BruteForce » Mon Jul 13, 2009 9:51 am

My 11 year old (Nick) and I took off for Monroe Mountain on Saturday morning. We packed everything on our ATV's (tents, food, camp chairs, fishing poles).

What an eventful weekend. We got to the top of Monroe Mountain and setup tent at the edge (opposite side of the dam) of Manning Reservoir.

We got a bit of fishing in, my 11 year old caught 6 trout, but the requirements were to release anything under 22inches (with a one fish max.).

Got to watch and listen to a bunch of drunks camped by the dam play bumper-cars with their ATV's, get drunk in a boat and generally yell and curse most of the night.

About one hour after getting camp situated, a monstrous thunderstorm rolled in. At first, it seemed like it would be small and pass quickly, but then the high winds kicked in, followed by rolling thunder and some of the hardest (and longest) rain we've seen so far.

It needs to be said that the cows on Manning Meadow are the most musical I've ever heard. They sang all day and all night long. It was quite humorous to listen to them bleet and sing.

After the storm had passed, we pulled the ATV's out and rode the 01 and onto the 89 (Anderson Dairy Trail). Although it was muddy from the storm, it was still great riding this trail as the sun went down.

Took the scenic route back to Marysvale by following the 01, 068, 70 and 02 trails back in. What a great location. I can't believe I haven't been to the east side of HWY89 yet!
