Signal Peak/Fordyce Ride June 6

Postby avejoe » Sat Jun 06, 2009 6:29 pm

Very nice ride with a little rain. Just enough to keep the dust down.

Starting promptly at 10:00...

 That was mostly my fault. I had a little trailer 'incident' on the way to Ken's house. Apparently it was not locked on the ball and came off about halfway there. Luckily, it was a back road and no real damage was done. I had the safety chains on so it was hanging by them, and there were no quads on it yet.

It was a great ride, glad I decided to go. I was sketchy about the rain thing, but it really wasn't that bad. THe no dust part was awesome - we rode within 25 feet of one another all day long. Much easier to keep trrack of everyone like that.

I'm a sore puppy right now though. 6 hours of riding is about all I can handle.

Yep, that's Keenan (Ken's son) and he did great! One good thing about the Hawkeye, it's very nimble. So a lot of stuff we had to go over or thru, he just went around.

Yeah...Kenan did a great job. Hitting his lines square, keep his tires ON rocks, picking the best line....he made a couple little mistakes on some tilting rocks....but definitely learned a lot.

The key to the Hawkeye is how small it is...he can slither around places we can't. It's also not made to POUND the rocks....you gotta just go with the flow.

The no dust was great...and rain is TOTALLY manageable with the correct clothing. The ONLY bummer part about rain is the visor/goggles. I have yet to find a solution for steaming the inside on my visor or getting the water of the outside. I had fresh Rain-X on my visor....but it was useless. I ended up riding with visor about 1/2 way down...I could see just below the visor, but put my down to in heavy rain spots. But still not ideal.
