Just got back from 3 days of riding in the Yerington area. Stayed at the Casino west. Day 1 we launched at pine grove flat road and nf road 59. It's less than 10 miles from the hotel and is really a great place to start. Went west up through the canyon past just tons of history. Went down Nye canyon, Sand canyon, Dead ox canyon, up trail 371 to the top. A neat little trail, circled around and back to the truck. 45 miles there about. We spent alot of time checking things out, so it took us most of the day.
Day 2 we drove down 338 to trail 28 towards the elbow. Launched at nf 128, this is a awesome trail, took in masonic and tried to make it to Bodie. Too much snow we got within a couple of miles though. Back to Masonic, which is too cool. Went back on trail 46, got a mile or so past the 128 intersection. Pulled over to take a break, noticed obsidian chips shining in the sun. Poked around for a few minutes, found the smallest arrowhead i've ever seen, 1 and 1 eight inches. For and area of about 50 yards around there were chips every where.
Day 3 back to 59 and pine flat road. Went straight down pine flat road, thought it might be faster thant driving all the way to the elbow. Wrong, 40 miles later we get to 28, worth the ride though went by flying m ranch beautiful scenery. Got to the intersection, talked to some guys taking ore samples on the lava flow, decided to go back to a big valley past flying m. There was tons of wild horse sign, so we decided to see what we could find. Theres a high voltage line that runs across the valley we went up that. Went up a canyon cat creek, ran into the monarch mine. A beautiful canyon, cat creek still had water running. Kicked up 1 antelope, circled back down and came down a wash back to the main road. No horses, sign everywhere, kicked up about 8 mule deer. Got back to the truck with 75 miles on for the day. A fantastic 3 days of riding, right around 180 miles total. The Toiyabe national forest map covers all these areas well. The best nf map i have ever used.
